Abuja, Nigeria - March 28, 2024 - The Honorable Minister of State for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, has officially inaugurated the Ginger Blight Epidemic Control Taskforce (GBECT). The ceremony marked the commencement of a critical mission to address the devastating Ginger Blight disease that has led to over 10 billion naira in losses for farmers across the nation.

Equipped with a robust 1.6-billion-naira recovery package from the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), GBECT is poised to extend a lifeline of support to the aggrieved ginger farmers, offering essential technical assistance to overturn the impact of this epidemic.

The establishment of GBECT and its recovery fund is a stride forward in actualizing President Tinubu's vision for food sufficiency and reinforced security within the agricultural framework of Nigeria. As part of this initiative, NADF will underpin the task force by operating as the secretariat, ensuring an organized and efficient deployment of resources and recovery efforts.

This significant government intervention via NADF is envisaged to not only ameliorate the current losses but also to put measures in place to safeguard against similar future threats to Nigeria's food and economic security.
